| Manuscript Collection | Requires cookie* | 47 | Title: | Henry Dodge Papers
| | | Creator: | Dodge, Henry | | | Dates: | 1958 | | | Abstract: | Henry Dodge was a descendant of one of the oldest families in Cleveland, Ohio, and an employee of Standard Oil of New Jersey. Dodge lived his adult life in Scarsdale, New York. The collection consists of a book of reminiscences for his children. In addition to his own life story, his book provides information on many of his family members, including his wife, Lila McClelland Dodge, his parents, Samuel Douglas Dodge and Jeannette May Groff, and his grandparents, George C. Dodge, Lucy A. Burton Dodge, Henry R. Groff, and Mary A. Sutherland Groff. The book contains references to prominent Clevelanders, including John D. Rockefeller. The collection is valuable as a sketch of the life of Henry Dodge and for the information it contains on the Dodge family and related families. Since the Dodges were a prominent Cleveland family, the material also includes information on the social life of Cleveland's upper class during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Dodge's experiences in France during World War I may also be of interest. | | | Call #: | MS 4432 | | | Extent: | 0.10 linear feet (1 container) | | | Subjects: | Dodge, Henry, b. 1883. | Dodge family. | Groff family. | Upper classes -- Ohio -- Cleveland. | World War, 1914-1918 -- Personal narratives, American. | Cleveland (Ohio) -- Biography. | Cleveland (Ohio) -- Social life and customs.
