 Abstract:  Henry Dodge was a descendant of one of the oldest families in Cleveland, Ohio, and an employee of Standard Oil of New Jersey. Dodge lived his adult life in Scarsdale, New York. The collection consists of a book of reminiscences for his children. In addition to his own life story, his book provides information on many of his family members, including his wife, Lila McClelland Dodge, his parents, Samuel Douglas Dodge and Jeannette May Groff, and his grandparents, George C. Dodge, Lucy A. Burton Dodge, Henry R. Groff, and Mary A. Sutherland Groff. The book contains references to prominent Clevelanders, including John D. Rockefeller. The collection is valuable as a sketch of the life of Henry Dodge and for the information it contains on the Dodge family and related families. Since the Dodges were a prominent Cleveland family, the material also includes information on the social life of Cleveland's upper class during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Dodge's experiences in France during World War I may also be of interest.

 Abstract:  John Whittlesey Walton (1845-1926) was a co-founder of the Upson-Walton Company in Cleveland, Ohio, who was also treasurer of the Cleveland Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) and a member of many other civic, charitable and literary organizations. He was descended from William Bradford on his father's side and from the Whittlesey family of Tallmadge, Ohio, on his mother's side. The collection consists of one handwritten volume containing genealogical and family history and Walton's memories of personal and national events (ca. 1845-1926).

50Title:  Former Junior Federation Records

 Abstract:  The Former Junior Federation (f. 1927) was an African American women's social club constituted of the former members of the Junior Federation in Cleveland, Ohio. It was originally called the Gertrude Fisher Club after the founder who molded a group of youngsters into an organization that gathered in each other's homes. The aims of the club were to instill an understanding of the body of culture and thought in the world, to train women to become more efficient club members and better citizens, and to promote service and philanthropy as well as social and cultural interests. In the 1950s they became members of the Council of Colored Women and renamed themselves the Junior Girls Federation. By 1965 they had again changed their name, this time to the Former Junior Federation, but continued their social, civic and friendly activities. The collection consists of a constitution, bylaws, membership rosters, minutes, financial statements, correspondence, clippings, and memorabilia.
